TNVS, ILIHAN, TOLEDO CITY โ Campus journalists from across the division worked under real newsroom pressure during the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) 2025 mini-press conference on Saturday, November 22, 2024 as they covered live briefings and produced outputs for TV Scriptwriting and Broadcasting (TVSB), Collaborative Desktop Publishing (CDP), and Online Publishing (OP) within a tight deadline.
The activity opened at around 8 a.m. with talks on the ARAL Reading Program and disaster preparedness.
Mrs. Joane Comendador, school head of General P. Del Rosario NHS, stressed the need for stronger reading support, noting that many learners remain below the expected level.
โWhat happens when a child reaches Grade 4 and still cannot read a simple sentence?โ she said, reporting a 68% improvement among ARAL learners after tutoring and regular monitoring.
Nurse Jeric Clemente of Schools Governance and Operations Division followed with a presentation on the divisionโs disaster readiness programs.
โDisasters donโt wait,โ he said, emphasizing earthquake drills, emergency protocols, and coordination with barangay responders. He recalled that during Typhoon Tino, schools shifted to temporary learning spaces to ensure classes continued.
After the talks, participants began gathering details for their outputs. TVSB teams filmed reports, wrote scripts, and conducted interviews in preparation for live viewing. CDP and OP groups started producing their required four pages: news, sports, opinion with cartoon, and featureโwithin the set time.
A CDP coach said that limited preparation was their biggest challenge.
โThe training time was short because of the calamities, but the school supported us with gadgets and laptops, so we managed,โ she said.
One of the judges reminded participants of the basics of broadcast writing, saying, โIn TV broadcasting, you write for the ears, shoot for the eyes, and aim for the heart.โ
Participants were required to use information from the ARAL and DRRM discussions in their stories. Sports writers covered video-recorded volleyball game before returning to write under time pressure.
Despite the tight schedule, all teams completed their outputs. The TVSB team were able to successfully present their output during the live viewing. The activity aimed to expose student journalists to real newsroom workflow while strengthening their reporting and production skills.
